The Los Angeles Times announced Monday that it has named Forbes Media executive Lewis DVorkin as its Editor-in-Chief.
Dvorkin replaces Davan Maharaj, who was fired in August as editor and publisher of the L.A. Times by the company’s Chicago-based parent company, Tronc. The company also announced that Mickie Rosen would be coming on board to serve as the new president of Los Angeles Times Media Group.
Maharaj’s ouster was accompanied by the removal of three other top editors at the daily paper, which like many legacy media companies has suffered severe losses in traditional advertising and readership with the rise of digital media.
DVorkin, a veteran media hand, has held positions at Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Newsweek.
“Lewis is one of the most transformational editors and digital innovators in the media industry and is exceptionally qualified to lead the evolution of the Los Angeles Times newsroom,” LA Times publisher Ross Levinsohn said in a press release. “He knows how to build a competitive, sustainable media business with global clout while preserving the highest standards of journalistic integrity.”
Dvorkin added, “I am honored to be joining a newsroom that is producing some of the best journalism available anywhere, at a time when trusted news sources are vitally needed.”
