Kevin MacLellan has been promoted to chairman of NBCUniversal International, following Jeff Shell’s move to chairman of Universal’s Filmed Entertainment Group.
MacLellan is based in London, as Shell was before his appointment Monday. Effective now, MacLellan will lead day-to-day operations and international expansion opportunities in divisions outside North America, including Theatrical, Home Entertainment, Theme Parks and Television distribution, networks and production. He will also join the Executive Committee of NBCUniversal.
“Over 12 years with Comcast, Kevin MacLellan has proven himself to be a dynamic and talented executive,” said NBCUniversal president Steve Burke. “With his extensive international experience, I am confident Kevin’s strategic leadership will take NBCUniversal International into its next phase of growth.”
“NBCUniversal and Comcast’s unique combination of content and distribution assets present many significant opportunities to grow our International business across multiple markets and media platforms in a dynamically evolving landscape,” MacLellan said. “We are in a great place to take our growth to the next level.”
MacLellan was previously president of International Television, a role to which he was appointed following Comcast’s acquisition of NBCUniversal in 2011.
Before that, he served as president of Comcast International Media Group and Comcast Entertainment Studios. He was responsible for Comcast’s international television and new media properties, including E! Entertainment Television, E! On-line, The Style Network, The Golf Channel, and G4.
Prior to joining Comcast Corporation in 2001, MacLellan was vice president of International Television Networks at Sony Pictures Television International in London.
