A trailer for executive producer Kathryn Bigelow‘s “Cartel Land” gives audiences a glimpse into the struggles of two vigilante force — one north and one south of the American-Mexican border — fighting against drug cartels.
“There’s an imaginary line out there between right and wrong, good and evil. I believe what I am doing is good, and what I am standing up against is evil,” military veteran Tim “Nailer” Foley, who leads a small paramilitary group called Arizona Border Recon, tells the cameras.
Meanwhile, “Cartel Land” also captures a Mexican citizen uprising against the violent Knights Templar drug cartel that has wreaked havoc on their region for years. Dr. Jose Mireles, a small-town physician known as “El Doctor,” leads the group that called the Autodefensas.
Director Matthew Heineman won the Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, as well as the Special Jury Award for Cinematography in the U.S. Documentary competition.
The Orchard is releasing “Cartel Land” in select theaters on July 3.
