Can Kanye West bridge the divide between President Donald Trump and football player/protest pioneer Colin Kaepernick?
West himself seems to think so, anyway.
“The Life of Pablo” rapper West, who recently gained attention for his thoughts on the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery, sat down with TMZ to say that he wants to bring former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Kaepernick to the White House.
As readers might recall, Trump has been less than charitable in his assessment of NFL players’ protests. Last year, during a rally for Alabama Senate candidate Luther Strange, Trump asked the crowd, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say ‘get that son of a b—- off the field’ right now, out! He’s fired?’”
But West told TMZ that he’s already made moves to close the divide.
“I’ve been calling Colin this morning, reaching him so I can bring Colin to the White House, and we can remove that ‘sons of b—hes’ statement, and we can be on the same page.”
West’s idea might not be so far-fetched. Earlier this year, after meeting with West’s wife Kim Kardashian West at the White House, Trump granted the reality TV star’s plea for clemency for Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old woman who was sent to prison for a nonviolent drug offense.
