Jon Stewart: Why Chris Christie’s Bridge Scandal Gave Paul Ryan a Monster Boner (Video)

Some political rivals just got a little overly excited by the Garden State mess

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is embroiled in a scandal that could imperil his White House ambitions.

That’s bad news for the GOP’s rising star, who must now respond to charges that his administration closed down access lanes to the busy George Washington Bridge from Fort Lee, N.J.  as an act of political retribution, but as Jon Stewart noted on Wednesday’s “The Daily Show,” not everyone is saddened by the news of Gov. Christie’s public relations headache.

“Did probable presidential favorite Chris Christie personally order this traffic hit? ” Stewart asked. “I don’t know. But I do know one thing about the effects of this burgeoning scandal — you can probably now see Paul Ryan’s boner from space.”

For now, Gov. Christie has said that he had no knowledge that members of his administration planned the closures as form of retaliation against the Democratic mayor of Fort Lee for not endorsing his re-election campaign, but he did vow that “people will be held responsible for their actions.”

“Well clearly somebody is getting thrown under the bus here,” Stewart said. “Fortunately for them the bus isn’t moving. It’s stuck in terrible traffic.”

Stewart, who grew up in New Jersey, said that in the grand history of Garden State corruption, a few intemperate text message barely constitute as a scandal. To drive his point home, he referenced New Jersey’s official state poet, Bruce Springsteen.

“We have a saying in New Jersey,” Stewart said. “It’s kind of our state motto. It’s a death trap. It’s a suicide rap. You gotta get out while you’re young. So don’t block the bridge ’cause there’s not that many ways out.”
