Senator John McCain said that James Comey had a “double standard” because he famously announced prior to the election that there would be no charge against Hillary Clinton — while the investigation into Trump’s campaign is still ongoing.

“The Clinton investigation was a completed investigation that the FBI had been deeply involved in so I had an opportunity to understand all the facts and apply those facts to the law as I understood them. [The Trump] investigation was underway, still going when I was fired, so it’s nowhere near the same place,” Comey said.

“Well, at least in the mind of this member there is a whole lot of questions remaining about what went on,” McCain said. “I think the American people have a whole lot of questions out there.”

McCain indicated that if the FBI is investigating whether or not Russia meddled with the presidential election, then all of the candidates should be investigated equally. He said Clinton was “clearly involved” in “this whole situation where fake news… took place.”

Comey and McCain appeared to confuse each other over the situation and the Senator eventually said, “It’s hard to reconcile, one case you have reached compete conclusion and the other side you have not.”

McCain continued: “I think there is a double standard there to tell you the truth.”
