Joe Carnahan in Talks to Write New ‘Bad Boys’ Movie for Sony

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are being sought to return to the popular action franchise

Joe Carnahan is in early talks to write the new “Bad Boys” movie for Sony, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Carnahan is expected to rewrite the script by David Guggenheim with an eye towards directing the action sequel, for which Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are being sought to return, according to insiders.

Carnahan does not have a deal in place yet, but he is a filmmaker with a macho voice whose action scenes are character-driven, making him a strong fit for the “Bad Boys” franchise.

Carnahan directed the excellent low-budget movies “Narc” and “The Grey,” and he’s coming off the Blumhouse production “Stretch.” He has experience directing big-budget action movies, having directed “The A-Team.”

Carnahan is represented by CAA, the Arlook Group and attorney Stuart Rosenthal.
