Showtime’s comedy pilot “I’m Dying Up Here” has added Robert Forster, Cathy Moriarty, Alfred Molina, Al Madrigal, Dylan Baker and Jon Daly to the cast.
The series about the stand up comedy scene of the 1970s is executive produced by Jim Carrey. If the pilot is picked up to series, Molina, Baker, Madrigal and Daly would have recurring roles.
The actors join the previously cast Melissa Leo, Sebastian Stan, Clark Duke, Ari Graynor, Andrew Santino, RJ Cyler, Erik Griffin and Stephen Guarino.
Baker will play Johnny Carson on the show, while Molina plays “marginal at best” talent manager Carl. Madrigal plays a loose canon comedian named Edgar and Daly plays Arnie, a struggling comic.
Stan will play Clay, “a funny, charming comedian on the rise, who declares irrelevancy as his biggest fear,” and in the pilot, his parents will be played by Forester and Moriarty.
Dave Flebotte will write and executive produce the series. Carrey will executive produce along with Michael Aguilar, and Christina Wayne for Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment.
The pilot will be directed by Jonathan Levine. It is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by William Knoedelseder.
