Jessica Chastain is taking on gun control in a new political thriller, thanks to EuropaCorp and FilmNation Entertainment.

“Miss Sloane,” which was sold at the Toronto International Film Festival, will be directed by John Madden (“Shakespeare in Love”) from a script by Jonathan Perera. Production is slated to begin in March 2016.

Chastain will play a lobbyist who gives up everything to pass an amendment enforcing stricter gun control laws.

Ben Browning will produce for FilmNation with Patrick Chu as executive producer. EuropaCorp will fully finance the film and handle worldwide distribution.

“The film’s subject matter of gun control is an incredibly important issue in today’s world,” EuropaCorp CEO Christopher Lambert said. “John Madden and Jessica Chastain bring with them such a high level of artistry, making ‘Miss Sloane’ a perfect addition to the EuropaCorp slate.”

UTA Independent Film Group represented FilmNation Entertainment on the deal. Chastain is represented by CAA and Mosaic; and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller. Jonathan Perera is represented by Scott Carr of Management SGC.
