Jamie Foxx, Michelle Monaghan to Star in Action-Thriller ‘Sleepless Night’

Baran Bo Odar (“The Silence”) will direct the English-language remake for Open Road Films

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx and Golden Globe nominee Michelle Monaghan will star in Open Road Films’ action thriller “Sleepless Night,” an English-language remake of the French film that will be directed by Baran Bo Odar, the company announced Friday.

“Sleepless Night” is the story of Vincent Downs (Foxx), a seemingly corrupt Las Vegas cop. When gangsters kidnap his son as ransom for a shipment of cocaine he stole, Downs races to save his son’s life without getting caught by Internal Affairs and before the mobsters discover that he’s actually lost the goods. Monaghan plays officer Jennifer Bryant, an Internal Affairs agent investigating Downs who ultimately has to decide which side of the law he’s on.

Written by Andrea Berloff (“Straight Outta Compton”), the screenplay reinvents the French film “Nuit Blanche” that Frederic Jardin directed from a script he co-wrote with Olivier Fox and Nicolas Saada.

Vertigo Entertainment will produce the remake for Open Road Films, which will finance production and take worldwide distribution rights under their recently announced partnership with FilmNation.

“With a sharp script and a first rate team of talent in front of and behind the camera, we are proud to produce ‘Sleepless Night’ and to make this project the inaugural film under our international distribution agreement with FilmNation,” said Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg.

Roy Lee and Vertigo Entertainment’s president of production Adam Stone will produce for Vertigo Entertainment, whose John Powers Middleton and Alex Foster will executive produce with Ortenberg and Open Road’s Peter Lawson. Original producers Lauranne Bourrachot and Marco Cherqui from Chic Films will also serve as executive producers.
