“The Casual Vacancy,” an adaptation of the book by “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling, will premiere April 29 on HBO.

The show, which is presented by HBO in association with the BBC, will kick off April 29 at 8 p.m. with back-to-back episodes, with the third part of the miniseries airing April 30 at 8 p.m.

The adaptation centers on Pagford, a seemingly idyllic English village with a cobbled market square and ancient abbey. Behind the pretty façade, however, is a town at war: rich vs. poor, teenagers vs. parents, wives vs. husbands, teachers vs. pupils.

“Harry Potter” actor Michael Gambon, Keeley Hawes (“Death at a Funeral”), Rory Kinnear, Monica Dolan  and Julia McKenzie are among the cast.
