Neon has released the first teaser for Margot Robbie’s “I, Tonya,” the film about the polarizing U.S. figure skater Tonya Harding.
“America — they want someone to love, but they want someone to hate,” Robbie says in the trailer. “And the haters always say, ‘Tonya, tell the truth! There’s no such thing as truth, I mean, it’s bulls—!”
Robbie stars as disgraced Olympic figure skater Harding, who became a household name after her ex-husband and bodyguard orchestrated a physical attack on her main competitor, Nancy Kerrigan. But unbeknownst to many, Harding was also the victim of her ex’s violence.
Bobby Cannavale, Sebastian Stan, Caitlin Carver and Allison Janney also star in the Craig Gillespie-directed film.
It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month and will hit theaters on Dec. 8.
