Harvey Weinstein was arrested Friday morning after surrendering to authorities in New York City.
The producer is currently being booked on charges of rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct, and the Twitter community is celebrating what many people see as the first step towards justice.
Below are some of the strongest initial reactions from the social media website.
It’s about time: Harvey Weinstein turned himself in this morning and is in police custody. Today, instead of focusing on him, I will be celebrating all of the powerful women out there. This is just the beginning #TheFutureIsFemalehttps://t.co/OexdY6U809

There is no need to use “allegedly” when it comes this monster. He is a rapist, assaulter, and a harasser. https://t.co/Rn7AgqGDpB

Griffin also composed another tweet with a photo of Weinstein’s arrest, saying, “Rot in prison you piece of sh–.”

At least 80 women have accused Weinstein of assault, harassment and inappropriate conduct.
The avalanche of accusations against him spawned the global #MeToo movement, throwing a spotlight on sexual misconduct in the workplace across industries.
