Marvel Studios could be close to finding its Kate Bishop for the upcoming “Hawkeye” series for Disney+. Hailee Steinfeld is in talks to the play Hawkeye-in-training, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.
Variety was first to report on Steinfeld circling the Kate Bishop role, though the individual was unsure how far along the talks have progressed with Steinfeld. Reps for Disney, Marvel and Steinfeld did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Steinfeld would star alongside Jeremy Renner, who returns as Clint Barton in the series, which debuts in the fall of 2021. The series sees Barton train Bishop to take over the mantle of Hawkeye. Last week, Marvel Studios tapped “Mad Men” alum Jonathan Igla to write the series.
“Hawkeye” will be the fourth MCU-set series that will stream on Disney+, along with “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” in Fall 2020, “WandaVision” and “Loki” in Spring 2021. The animated “What If…” will premiere in the summer of 2021. Marvel Studios is also developing a trio of shows further down the road in “Ms. Marvel,” “Moon Knight” and “She-Hulk.”
Disney+ launches Nov. 12 and will cost $6.99 a month.
The role would be the second major gig for an upcoming TV series on a streaming service. The actress is also set to star in Apple TV+’s upcoming “Dickinson,” a dramedy based on the famed 19th century poet Emily Dickinson.
