“Grandfathered” is about to introduce a great-grandfather. “Goodfellas” star Paul Sorvino has been cast to play the father of John Stamos‘ character, TheWrap has learned.
The Fox sitcom stars Stamos and Josh Peck. Stamos plays Jimmy, a dedicated bachelor whose life is thrown for a loop when he learns that not only does he have a son (Peck) that he never knew about, but that his son has a child of his own.
Sorvino, who played a cop on the first two seasons of “Law & Order,” will play the role of Jack Martino, described as an old school, “Mad Men”-y man’s man.
He was married to Jimmy’s mom for a really long time until she died. While he provided for the family well, he was also emotionally reserved and withholding.
“Grandfathered,” recently picked up for a full 22-episode season, is produced by ABC Studios and 20th Century Fox Television.
The series is created and written by Daniel Chun. It is executive-produced by Chun, Dan Fogelman and Stamos. Chris Koch serves as director and executive producer.
Sorvino has appeared in more than 170 roles in film and on TV, including a recent recurring arc on ABC’s “The Goldbergs.” He is represented by Innovative Artists.
