Netflix has released the first full-length trailer for the upcoming series “Girlboss,” in which Britt Robertson builds a multimillion dollar fashion empire known as Nasty Gal.
“You know how people flip houses? Well, I flip clothes,” Robertson, who stars as Nasty Gal founder and “#Girlboss” author Sophia Amoruso, says in the trailer.
The actress, normally a blonde, has transformed into her fashionista character, with brown hair and savvy style.
In the footage, she buys a vintage leather jacket for $9 at a thrift store and then tries to sell it on eBay for $615. She begins selling clothes on the internet shopping platform until the prices she is trying to sell them for repels buyers.
When her sales on eBay don’t work, Amoruso starts her own site, called Nasty Gal, which quickly turns into a multi-million dollar fashion empire including stores in Los Angeles.
“Go ahead, underestimate me, I’ve got it all figured out,” Amoruso says in the trailer.
However, in February, it was announced the stores were going to shut their doors after the company was set to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November. According to Recode, Amoruso resigned from her role as executive chairwoman.
According to the show’s official description, Robertson as Amoruso “stumbles upon her passion of selling vintage clothes online and becomes an unlikely businesswoman. As she builds her retail fashion empire, she realizes the value and the difficulty of being the boss of her own life.”
Ellie Reed, Alphonso McAuley, Johnny Simmons and Dean Norris will also star.
And guest star RuPaul makes an appearance — this time not in drag. “Unless you want the HPV, better close your legs, girl,” he tells Amoruso after she splits her pants.
Kay Cannon serves as creator, showrunner and executive producer of the 13-episode comedy. Amoruso also serves as executive producer alongside Charlize Theron, Laverne McKinnon of Denver & Delilah, and director Christian Ditter.
