(Spoiler alert: Please do not read on if you haven’t watched Netflix’s “Gilmore Girls” revival)
It’s perhaps the most highly-debated topic in all of “Gilmore Girls” fandom: Who should Rory end up with? In Netflix’s revival “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” that gets answered — sort of.
Throughout an entire year in the life of mother-daughter duo Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel), the younger Gilmore is seen struggling. At 32, her career isn’t where she thought it would be, and her love life is even worse.
She has a boyfriend of two years, Paul (Jack Carpenter), but everyone, including her, keeps forgetting he even exists, making it hard for her to remember to break up with him.
Despite Paul’s presence in her life, she has been carrying on an affair with Logan (Matt Czuchry), her Yale boyfriend last seen in the original “Gilmore Girls” series getting dumped by Rory after he proposed to her when they were 22.
Logan lives in London, and whenever Rory’s over there for work, they’re on — except for when his fiancée is in town.
The two obviously have lingering feelings, but after one last tryst in New Hampshire, they decide to break it off for good.
Meanwhile, Rory runs into Dean (Jared Padalecki) and Jess (Milo Ventigmilia) as well, both on more apparently friendly terms. Dean is married with a bunch of kids, and from how much he and Rory know about each other’s lives, they’ve obviously kept in touch.
Jess, who should be a constant in Rory’s life as he’s officially family now that Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai are married, gives Rory the biggest push she needed to get her life back on track — he tells her she should write a book about her relationship with her mother.
Though he insists he’s over her, a lingering look at his ex through a frosty window on his way out of town again should make anyone question that.
In the end, Rory ends up alone, though her final words to her mother — “I’m pregnant” — should indicate this story is still far from over.
“Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” is currently streaming on Netflix.
