George Clooney’s Smokehouse Picks Up ‘Three Minutes to Doomsday’

Body language expert Joe Navarro’s book details his work with FBI during the Cold War

George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures has acquired the North American movie rights to Joe Navarro’s book “Three Minutes to Doomsday.”

Smokehouse announced Sunday that it had picked up the book, which is based on the work Navarro did as the FBI’s top body language expert during the Cold War, from Scribner, a division of Simon & Schuster. Abrams Artists Agency brokered the deal.

Navarro was assisted in his writing by Howard Means, who has collaborated on multiple New York Times bestsellers, including “See No Evil” and “Sleeping with the Devil,” both by Robert Baer.

Baer’s books provided the basis for the 2005 film “Syriana,” which Clooney executive produced and starred in, winning a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award.
