“Game of Thrones” star Lena Headey is set to star in Myriad Pictures’ thriller “The Woman of the Woods,” which will be financed and sold worldwide by Scoundrel Media, it was announced Wednesday.

Russell Friedenberg will direct from his own screenplay, and the film will be produced by Heather Rae (“Frozen River”).

In “The Woman of the Woods,” Kelsay (Headey) and her husband have just decided to separate.  They agree to go on one last family camping trip in a remote area of the Pacific Northwest to break the news to their young daughter.  But an evil presence lurks in the woods – and it soon influences the daughter who succumbs to a strange and frightening world of violence.  Upon their return to Seattle, a police detective investigating a series of missing persons becomes convinced that the daughter is responsible.  Kelsey must prove her daughter’s innocence – but to do so she must face the terrifying entity – and finds herself spiraling into greater and greater danger.

Myriad/Scoundrel will begin shopping the project to international buyers at the American Film Market.

“‘I’m totally amped to bring ‘Woman of the Woods’ to audiences around the world with Myriad Pictures and the incredibly talented Lena Headey,” said Friedenberg. “Lena brings an authenticity and emotional power to her work that is uncompromising. And Myriad has a track record of elevated and poignant work that we are proud to be a part of. Full speed ahead!”

“We absolutely loved this contemporary gothic thriller script and are excited to work with Heather and Russell. We are also completely smitten with Lena Headey‘s incredible acting ability and know that she will bring this complex leading character of Kelsay fully to light,” said Kirk D’Amico, president/CEO of Myriad.

Myriad’s Audrey Delaney and Kevin Forester negotiated international sales rights to the film with Heather Rae negotiating on behalf of the filmmakers.

Best known for playing Cersei Lannister on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Headey’s film credits include “The Purge,” “300” and the upcoming “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” She’s represented by CAA, Troika and TMT Entertainment Group.
