The critics have weighed in on Sunday night’s “Game of Thrones” premiere and the verdicts are practically unanimous.
According to the website Rotten Tomatoes, the Season 7 premiere has a perfect score, beating out Season 6’s premiere, which had an 89 percent.
Granted, things could change as more reviews come in. Season 6’s rating is after 38 total reviews while Season 7 only has 14 in so far.
The Season 7 premiere, “Dragonstone,” was praised by critics for a few reasons, mainly for how it introduces and puts into place all the pieces the audience will need for the rest of the season (and maybe the rest of the series) and that cold open.
Anne Cohen over at Refinery29, praised the first five minutes, saying “seven hells, what a f—ing intro.”
“While these are still complex characters and there remains plenty of space for intrigue and conflict and betrayal, the fact is that this premiere is designed to map out the final act of this story in the clearest terms possible,” wrote Myles McNutt at the AVClub.
This isn’t the first time that “Game of Thrones” has reached the 100 percent milestone. The first three season premieres garnered the same rating, along with the Season 5 premiere. Season 4’s is at 96 percent, leaving Season 6 with the lowest rating.
However, Season 6 lands in the middle in terms of full season ratings, with a 96 percent total. The lowest is the first season at 89 percent. The highest rated seasons were 3 and 4 at 97 percent.
