Fox has given a put pilot commitment to a project based on Weezer lead vocalist and guitarist Rivers Cuomo.
Titled “DeTour,” the project from “Psych” creator Steve Franks and 20th Century Fox Television is being described as a coming of age story that is slightly out of sequence.

It will follow a fictionalized version of Cuomo and his 2005 return to Harvard University after making it big as a musician. He hoped to recapture the normal life he gave up when his music career kept him from graduating — just three classes shy of completion.
Franks will executive produce “DeTour” along with Chris Henze and Willie Mercer of Tagline Television. Cuomo and his manager, Dan Field, will also serve as executive producers.

Under the put pilot commitment, Fox will owe the producers a penalty if the pilot isn’t ordered to series.
An icon of 90s college rock, Weezer has sold more than 9 million albums in the US and more than 17 million albums worldwide.
