First ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer Pits Chris Evans Against Robert Downey Jr. (Video)

Marvel action film hits theaters May 2016

Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. made a special appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Tuesday to coincide with the release of the first trailer for Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.”

In the teaser, fans see Captain America and Iron Man on opposite sides as global governments try to regulate superheroes.

“There are some who prefer the word vigilante,” William Hurt as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross tells our heroes. “You’ve operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That’s something the world can no longer tolerate. There will be consequences.”

“Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers (Evans) leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity.

But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps — one led by Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s (Downey Jr. ) surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

“I simply want to punch you in your perfect teeth,” Stark later tells Rogers.

The film also stars Scarlett JohanssonSebastian StanAnthony MackieEmily VanCamp, Don CheadleJeremy RennerChadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo and Daniel Brühl.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016.
