In a wide-ranging interview with Rolling Stone, Swift gets candid about her love life, her professional feuds and being very cautious about janitors and wiretapping.
Here are seven revelations from the October magazine cover story:
1. She’s pretty much always worried about privacy
Swift is acutely aware that people are out to invade her privacy. “There’s someone whose entire job it is to figure out things that I don’t want the world to see,” she told Rolling stone. She’s also paranoid about basically anyone she lets get too close. “The janitor,” for one, could betray her. “The janitor who’s being paid by TMZ. This is gonna sound like I’m a crazy person – but we don’t even know. I have to stop myself from thinking about how many aspects of technology I don’t understand.”
2. She’s feuding with a fellow female musical artist
A song on “1989” is called “Bad Blood” and is about an fellow female recording artist Swift is coy about naming. “For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” she told RS. “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’” Then last year, the other star crossed a line. “She did something so horrible,” Swift says. “I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies.’ And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”
3. She hasn’t dated in over a year
Known for skewering her ex-boyfriends in song, the pop star may find a dearth of material for her next album if her love life continues the way it’s been going for the past year and a half. “Like, have not gone on a date. People are going to feel sorry for me when you write that. But it’s true… I don’t like giving comedians the opportunity to make jokes about me at awards shows. I don’t like it when headlines read ‘Careful, Bro, She’ll Write a Song About You,’ because it trivializes my work. And most of all, I don’t like how all these factors add up to build the pressure so high in a new relationship that it gets snuffed out before it even has a chance to start. And so, I just don’t date.”

4. She collects famous girlfriends
Though she’s done with boyfriends for the moment, she is all about the girlfriends. She took the Rolling Stone reporter on a tour of her New York City apartment, complete with guest rooms where her famous besties stay over. Karlie Kloss, the supermodel, is one, staying in a room complete with her favorite Whole Foods treats and pictures of her on the walls. For fun, Swift and “Girls” creator Lena Dunham dress up in white nightgowns in order to “look like pioneer women, fresh off the Oregon Trail.”
5. She’s a “Shoshana”
Swift sees her pal Dunham’s show “Girls” as her generation’s “Sex and the City.” And she already knows which of the four girls she is. “I’ve thought about this a lot,” she told RS. “I’m Shoshanna. Shoshanna gets excited about things, she’s really girly. And when she was in a relationship that was very comfortable, she made the decision to get out and go experience new things on her own. And now she’s becoming more sure of herself and taking life head-on, in a way that I can relate to. Even though I’ve never accidentally smoked crack at a warehouse party and run pantsless through Brooklyn.”

For her part, Dunham thinks Swift is more like Hannah, minus the horrid sexual behavior. Or Marnie, if she wasn’t an asshole.”
6. Being a fan can be lucrative
At one point during the interview, an excited fan came up to Swift and asked for a photo. Realizing it was the fan’s birthday and her only dinner plans consisted of hitting up Chipotle, Swift dug into her purse and gave the fan $90 in cash to “go somewhere nice” to celebrate.
7. Kendrick Lamar is her “go-to” feel-good song
To shield herself from the throngs of paparazzi and fans who follow here wherever she goes, Swift turns to Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle” via earphones: “I know every word.”
Swift’s fifth album, “1989,” will be released on Oct 27.
