CBS won Wednesday night with the debut of the Halle Berry–Steven Spielberg sci-fi drama “Extant,” which had the summer’s top new series premiere with a 1.7 rating in the key demographic.
That was a far lower rating than CBS’ big debut of last summer, “Under the Dome,” which scored a 3.3 in the key 18-49 demo. The 13.5 million viewers “Dome” pulled in also topped the 9.4 million from “Extant.”
CBS was first in ratings with a 1.6 rating/6 share in the demo and first in viewers with an average of 7.3 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Big Brother” at 8 p.m. had the night’s top rating, scoring a 1.9/7 and had 6.1 million viewers. “Extant” premiered at 9. A rerun followed.

NBC was second in ratings with a 1.3/5 and in viewers with 5.5 million. Following a rerun, “Taxi Brooklyn” at 10 had a 1.0/3 and 4.7 million viewers.
Fox and Univision tied for third in ratings, each with a 1.2/4. Fox was fourth in viewers with 3.7 million, Univision was fifth with 2.9 million. “So You Think You Can Dance” at 8 was the only show on Fox’s schedule, tying an all-time demo low.
ABC was fifth in ratings with a 1.0/3 and third in total viewers with 3.8 million. Following repeats, “Motive” at 10 got a 0.8/3 and 3.9 million viewers.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in total viewers with 1.4 million.
The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.3/1 and in total viewers with 792,000. The “iHeart Radio Pool Party ’14” at 8 received a 0.3/1 and 824,000 viewers. A repeat followed.
