Fox’s “Empire” has added Mo McRae for multiple episodes in Season 2, TheWrap has learned.
The actor will appear in three episodes and play a character named J-Poppa, who will be a love interest for Gabourey Sidibe’s character, Becky. J-Poppa will also form a connection with Andre (Trai Byers).
McRae is a series regular on TNT’s “Murder in the First” and also appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon in “Wild.”
“Empire” stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson and was a ratings record-breaker for Fox. The show’s finale achieved a 6.5 rating, drawing in 16.7 million total viewers.
The show also broke a 23-year ratings record, as it is the only primetime scripted series to grow in total viewers over each of its first five telecasts.
Earlier this summer, Henson was nominated for an Emmy for Best Actress for her role as Cookie Lyon.
“Empire” returns for a second season on Sept. 23.
McRae is represented by CAA and Untitled Management. The news of his casting was first reported by Variety.
