Robert Durst said he was high on meth while filming HBO’s “The Jinx,” according to court documents obtained by TheWrap.
“I was on meth. The whole time I was on meth,” Durst said in a March 15, 2015 jailhouse interview that was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday. “And, when I looked at the little pieces of it, I was going like this, and like that. And it was… it should have been obvious.”
Durst said he was “surprised” his lawyer let him go ahead with the show because it “looked like there was something going on.”
A lawyer did not represent Durst during the jailhouse interview, and his attorneys have filed papers challenging evidence that resulted from his comments.
The HBO miniseries detailed Durst’s decades of bizarre tragedies, including the disappearance of his first wife, the execution-style murder of his best friend and a former neighbor that Durst admitted to killing in self-defense.
In a hot mic moment while filming the HBO special, Durst famously uttered, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”
Meanwhile, he is currently awaiting trial for killing Susan Berman, his aforementioned best friend.
“I do want to say here and now, I am not guilty. I did not kill Susan Berman,” Durst said of the charges stemming from the 2000 murder case.
