“Animal Planet” has renewed “Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet” for a third season, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Additionally, the titular Dr. Jeff Young, who has been battling cancer, recorded a brief personal video message to let viewers know he’s feeling fine. That’s also exclusive here and posted above.
“Rocky Mountain Vet” is Animal Planet’s top-performing series to date, averaging 1.3 million total viewers per episode. Among overall audience members, Season 2 has improved by 40 percent over the show’s inaugural run. The increase is even two percentage points above that in the 25-54 demographic.
“Dr. Jeff” is particularly strong among women of the aforementioned age range. The series’ popularity has made Animal Planet a Top 10 cable network on Saturday nights in June and July, both among those ladies mid-20s to mid-50s, and in terms of general eyeballs.
Season 2’s July 9 finale is the series’ most-watched episode ever, hauling in 1.7 million total viewers.

Young operates Planned Pethood Plus in Denver, which manages more than 80,000-plus clients, approximately 30 surgeries a day, boasts 30 staff, a bustling emergency room and a far-reaching mobile clinic.
“Dr. Jeff: Rocky Mountain Vet” Season 3 will premiere in early 2017 on Animal Planet.
