Don Johnson is in talks to join Vince Vaughn in the indie action thriller “Brawl in Cell Block 99” for Caliber Media and XYZ Films, a person familiar with the deal told TheWrap.

The film is the sophomore effort from S. Craig Zahler, the writer and director of the critically acclaimed 2015 cannibal Western “Bone Tomahawk,” an indie hit that received two Indie Spirit awards last year.

In “Brawl in Cell Block 99,” Vaughn plays Bradley, a former boxer whose marriage is crumbling and who is about to lose his job as an auto mechanic.

Running out of options, Bradley goes to work for an old friend as a drug courier. After he’s caught in a gunfight between cops and his own ruthless allies, he ends up in prison. There, he’s forced to commit brutal, violent acts.

Johnson would play the role of the prison warden in the film, which is set to start production next month in New York City.

“Brawl in Cell Block 99” is being produced by Caliber Media’s Jack Heller and Dallas Sonnier, the same duo that produced “Bone Tomahawk.”

Johnson is repped by CAA and Edelstein, Laird & Sobel.
