Disney has begun laying off employees of its ABC Television Group.
The cuts are primarily in non-content and operational sectors and will affect all divisions, including ABC Entertainment, ABC Studios, Freeform, Disney Channel, DisneyXD and Disney Junior.
Disney is cutting annual costs, although it plans to eliminate less than the annual 10 percent reduction that had initially been reported.
The moves come as the company is realigning resources around future growth, with the hope of adding other jobs down the road.
ABC finished in third place last season in total viewers behind NBC and CBS. Prolific producer Shonda Rhimes announced in August that she is leaving her longtime home at ABC for a multi-year deal at Netflix.
