Dave Chappelle isn’t laughing about a report that he supports GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
A spokeswoman for the comedian told TheWrap that Chappelle is “disgusted” by an Observer report that he defended Trump during a comedy show in New York on Friday.
“Dave is disgusted by the tone of this whole election and especially by the idea that his comedy would be misconstrued to defend Trump,” Chappelle’s publicist, Carla Sims, told TheWrap on Saturday. “In fact, his show blasted both candidates.”
The Observer story quoted Chappelle as performing at The Cutting Room and discussing the leaked conversation between Trump and then-“Access Hollywood” personality Billy Bush, in which Trump made lewd comments toward women.
“What I heard on that tape was gross,” Chappelle said, according to the Observer. “But the way I got to hear it was even more gross. You know that came directly from Hillary.”
The Observer also quoted Chappelle, who’s slated to host “Saturday Night Live” for the first time later this month, as saying that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton is “not right.”
While Sims didn’t deny those comments, she did say that the entire Observer story was “out of context.”
“BTW, he voted for Hillary,” Sims added.
Ouch. Who’s laughing now, Observer?
