Any Uber or Lyft ride in which we wound up riding with Dave Bautista or Kumail Nanjiani would get 5-stars in our book.
In their new film “Stuber,” Nanjiani plays an Uber driver named Stu who picks up Bautista as his passenger, only to discover he’s a cop in pursuit of a brutal killer. Despite Bautista accidentally selecting the “Uber Pool” option, Bautista eventually kidnaps Nanjiani and uses him to catch the killer, all while Stu tries to hang onto his five-star rating.
“Stop that! This is a lease,” Nanjiani shouts before shooting someone in the leg.
Nanjiani and Bautista star in the Fox comedy with “The Raid’s” Iko Uwais, Natalie Morales, Betty Gilpin, Jimmy Tatro, Mira Sorvino and Karen Gillan.
Bautista has been branching out into more traditional studio comedies of late, as he’s also starring in a family film called “My Spy” due out later this year. And Nanjiani, in turn, has not only landed more leading roles but action roles as well. He’s in talks to star in an upcoming Marvel movie, “The Eternals” from director Chloe Zhao.
Michael Dowse (“What If”) directed the film and is currently set for release on July 12.
