“Community” will debut March 17 on Yahoo for its sixth season.
The former NBC sitcom’s return date was unveiled Tuesday at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in a montage plugging the premiere.
This season, Paget Brewster and Keith David join the cast in their new home.
“Community” was canceled by NBC for good in May after five seasons of lackluster ratings. The show was generally beloved by critics and developed a massive online following. Originally it appeared that the comedy would find new life on Hulu, but Yahoo Screen stepped in at the last moment to scoop it up.
At the time, star Joel McHale made a suitably witty statement about the show’s future. “‘The reports of our cancelation have been greatly exaggerated.’ —Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years). # SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real,” he said. “Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now.”
“Community” will run two episodes on the Yahoo St. Patrick’s Day launch date, and subsequently a new episode will run weekly every Tuesday thereafter.
