Christian Slater to Star in USA’s Hacker Pilot ‘Mr. Robot’

Universal Cable Productions’ upcoming drama stars the actor as an anarchist who works with an anti-social young programmer (Rami Malek)

Christian Slater has been cast to star in the pilot for USA network’s hacker drama “Mr. Robot,” a spokesman for the network’s parent company NBC Universal told TheWrap on Tuesday.

The show centers around Elliot (Rami Malek), an anti-social young hacker who meets a mysterious anarchist named Mr. Robot (Slater) who attempts to recruit him into an underground hacking ring hellbent on bringing down destroying corporate America.

Mr. Robot‘s” co-stars include Martin Wallstrom (“Remake”), Portia Doubleday (“Carrie”) and Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”).

The show is produced by Universal Cable Productions and written by Sam Esmail (“Comet”). Esmail is executive producing alongside Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Niels Arden Oplev and Chad Hamilton.

Slater previously starred on ABC’s “Mind Games,” a show about two brothers who run a problem-solving firm employing psychological manipulation. It was canceled in March after airing only five episodes and the network instead used the time-slot to air reruns of its supernatural drama “Resurrection.”

As TheWrap previously reported, the actor starred on other short-lived TV dramas including Fox’s “Breaking In” (2011-12), ABC’s “The Forgotten” (2009) and NBC’s “My Own Worst Enemy” (2008).
