Ratings: ‘Chicago PD’ Clubs CBS’ ‘Criminal Minds’ Finale at 10PM

Fox wins primetime’s key demo with “Empire,” though NBC tops total viewers with special Wednesday “The Voice”

Fox won another Wednesday in the key 18-49 demo with its solid combo of “Empire” and “Star,” though it was NBC that claimed primetime’s most viewers with a special “The Voice” and a pair of procedurals — including a “Chicago P.D.” beatdown of CBS’ “Criminal Minds” season finale at 10 p.m.

Running a number of reruns, ABC settled for a distant fourth place last night. The CW ended up dead last — including the Spanish-language networks — despite airing the season premiere of “The Originals.”

Fox was first in ratings with a 1.5 rating/6 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and third in total viewers with an average of 4.7 million, according to preliminary numbers. “Empire” at 8 earned a 1.7/7 and 5.3 million viewers. At 9, “Star” had a 1.3/5 and 4 million viewers.

NBC was second in ratings with a 1.3/5 and first in viewers with 7.1 million. “The Voice” at 8 landed a 1.4/6 and 8.2 million viewers. At 9, “Law & Order: SVU” got a 1.4/5 and 6.5 million viewers. “Chicago P.D.” at 10 received a 1.2/5 and 6.6 million viewers.

CBS was third in ratings with a 1.1/5 and second in viewers with 6.3 million. “Survivor” at 8 put up a 1.6/7 and 7.7 million viewers. At 9, the night’s first “Criminal Minds” episode managed a 1.0/4 and 6 million viewers. A second hour at 10 dipped to a 0.9/4 and 5.3 million viewers.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 0.7/3 and in viewers with 3.2 million. Between some repeats, “Alex, Inc.” at 8:30 settled for a 0.6/3 and 2.9 million viewers. A new “Designated Survivor” at 10 finished primetime to a 0.6/2 and 3.5 million viewers.

Univision and Telemundo tied for fifth in ratings, both with a 0.5/2. Univision was fifth in total viewers with 1.5 million, Telemundo was sixth with 1.3 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.4/2 and in viewers with 1 million. “Riverdale” at 8 had a 0.4/2 and 1.1 million viewers. At 9, “The Originals” premiere to a 0.4/2 and 1 million viewers.
