Nick Gordon, the boyfriend of Bobbi Kristina Brown, was “clearly in an altered state of consciousness” while taping an interview for the “Dr. Phil” show, according to host Phil McGraw.

During the interview — after which Gordon reportedly checked into rehab — he was also “volatile,” the daytime TV host told the Associated Press.

“I asked him if he was sober, and he said, ‘No.’”

Gordon’s girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown — the daughter of Bobby Brown and deceased singer Whitney Houston — has been fighting for her life since being found face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub at her Georgia home on Jan. 31. After being rushed to the hospital, Brown was placed in a medically induced coma and connected to a ventilator.

According to Gordon, he has been blocked from visiting Brown in the hospital by her family.

McGraw added that Gordon felt he had “failed” his girlfriend following Houston’s 2012 death. Gordon, the daytime TV host said, believed it was “his job to protect Krisssy as he calls her, and that he obviously had failed.”

The interview, taped last week, is scheduled to air on the syndicated series Wednesday.

On Saturday, Bobbi Kristina’s aunt, Leolah Brown, claimed that Gordon is being investigated for attempted murder, writing on her Facebook page, “We have strong evidence of foul play. Until this investigation is completed by law enforcement, I would ask that you or anyone else not provide this individual a platform to spin this situation to his benefit.”
