Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ Murders Sam the Snowman in Blizzard-Mocking Cold Open (Video)

Stop-motion animation returns to CBS with devastating consequences

Winter Storm Stella and some cheap stop-motion animation brought Sam the Snowman back to the CBS “Late Show” Tuesday night — though not for long.

The brief appearance can be chalked up to two things: 1) It was Stephen Colbert’s (extra) cold open, which by its very nature is quite brief, and 2) the salt-spreader showed up.

“If I live to be 100, I’ll never forget the big snowstorm that hit last night,” Sam the Snowman began, likely mocking the underwhelming amount of powder New York City actually received despite forecasts.

He then lauded the “brave ‘Late Show’ staff” for even showing up and putting on a show. That’s when the salt truck showed up.

“It burns! It burns!” Sam screamed after getting sprayed. “My blood is on your hands, CBS!”

We’re pretty sure snowmen don’t bleed, but watch the video above anyway. Oh, and sorry about your childhood.
