Bill Clinton fired back at “Clinton Cash” author Peter Schweizer in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour set to air in full on “The Lead” later Wednesday.
Schweizer’s book, “Clinton Cash,” has been the subject of much media attention in the last few weeks as it’s laced with allegations that Hillary Clinton made decisions as Secretary of State based on donations to the Clinton Foundation.
While speaking to Amanpour, Clinton said Schweizer didn’t have a “shred of evidence” to support his claims.
“Even the guy that wrote the book apparently had to admit under questioning that he didn’t have a shred of evidence for this, he just sort of threw it out there and see if it’d fly. It won’t fly.”
Schweizer, a conservative author, was pressed by many hosts on whether he had actual proof of his claims, including ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and Fox News’ Chris Wallace. In both interviews, he said he wasn’t a lawyer and it’s not his role to legally prove the allegations.
Clinton’s email controversy and the Clinton cash allegations put a dent in her approval polls recently, with her unfavorable rating going up six points since March. She’s still doing well compared to the Republican field, and is the only candidate polled who doesn’t have a negative favorable/unfavorable rating.
