Alexandra Daddario has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming “Baywatch” movie remake.
The film will reunite Daddario with her “San Andreas” co-star, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who is starring in and producing the film. Zac Efron was announced as the second male lead in August.
The story follows a veteran lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a younger lifeguard (Efron) to save the beach from an environmental disaster.
Johnson shared the news on Instagram Wednesday, saying, “Want to welcome the talented and gorgeous @alexannadaddario to the cast of #BAYWATCH for the role of ‘Summer.’ Alex is a one of kind woman (I know from experience) and can’t wait for you guys to see her own the role.”
Damian Shannon and Mark Swift wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay, while Beau Flynn and Ivan Reitman are producing. Seth Gordon recently signed on to direct. Producers are targeting an early 2016 start.
The film will be a big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series of the same name, which ran from 1989 to 2001 starring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.
Daddario is represented by UTA, Untitled Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.
