Fox might want to put “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” back in detention.
The Jeff Foxworthy-hosted game show returned after four years off the air, scoring low marks in its comeback debut. That said, it fared better than last summer’s limp debut of “I Wanna Marry Harry” on the same network.
In other premiere news, ABC’s “Extreme Weight Loss” started down 31 percent from last year’s premiere.
Meanwhile, NBC easily topped Tuesday, with a 2.3 rating/8 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 9.5 million, according to preliminary numbers. “America’s Got Talent” at 8 p.m. earned a 2.6/9 — down 13 percent from last summer’s premiere — and had 10.9 million viewers. “I Can Do That!” opened with a decent 1.8/6 and 6.5 million viewers.
Fox was second in ratings with a 1.0/3, but fourth in viewers with 3.3 million. At 8, “5th Grader” had a 0.8/3 and 3.3 million viewers. “Hell’s Kitchen” at 9 got a 1.1/3 and 3.3 million viewers.
CBS, ABC and Univision all tied for third in ratings, each with a 0.9/3. CBS was second in total viewers with 7.2 million; ABC was third with 3.5 million; Univision was fifth with 2.3 million.
For CBS, following reruns, “48 Hours” at 10 p.m. posted a 0.9/3 and 5.6 million viewers.
For ABC, at 8 p.m., “500 Questions” had a 1.1/4 and 4.7 million viewers. The season premiere of “Extreme Weight Loss” at 9 got a 0.9/3 and 2.9 million viewers.
The CW and Telemundo tied for was sixth in ratings, both with a 0.5/2. CW was sixth in total viewers with 1.8 million; Telemundo was seventh with 1.3 million.
Following a repeat, the CW’s “iZombie” at 9 p.m. received a 0.6/2 and 1.8 million viewers.
