Updated Oct. 16 3:01 p.m. PT: Actor Anthony Mackie on Monday took to Twitter to clarify that he does not support Donald Trump’s presidential bid despite his statements in a BET interview. “Sorry Donald, that wasn’t an endorsement,” the star said on Twitter. “Just a bad attempt at a joke, I guess?”
Previously:
“Our Brand Is Crisis” exposed the world of politics to star Anthony Mackie, and the “Captain America” actor has thrown his support behind Donald Trump, at least as the presidential campaign he would most like to run.
“Trump’s an easy sell,” the actor said when asked if he would rather run Trump’s campaign or Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s. “When you look at Trump, he’s an easy sell because you can sell him as the guy who worked his way up from nothing. And I think if you’re a ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ candidate, people would identify with that.”
Does this constitute an endorsement?
“I’m on the bandwagon,” Mackie said, laughing. “I’m drinking the Kool-Aid!”
In the interview with BET, Mackie also conceded that he would never make it as a politician.
“I don’t think I would be able to hack it in politics,” he said. “If you question me, or you say something about my family, I’m coming at you, so I would definitely lose every presidential race, because I would be outside beating somebody up.”
“Our Brand Is Crisis” will be released on Friday, Oct.30.
