‘American Horror Story’ Season 7 Tease Raises a Trunk-Full of Questions

Ryan Murphy offers a creepy glimpse of what’s to come from FX anthology series

Ryan Murphy, can we talk about the elephant in your Instagram account?

“American Horror Story” co-creator Murphy offered an intriguing — and, quite frankly, terrifying — glimpse into the upcoming seventh season of the FX anthology series on Friday, posting a tease of the season on his Instagram account.

“American Horror Story Season 7 tease,” Murphy wrote.

The tease consisted of a sketch of a creepy, elephant-like creature, though with a garish, human-like mouth.

While the Instagram account is unverified, a spokesman for FX verified that it is, in fact, Murphy.

Murphy has said in the past that the next season of the series will involve the most recent presidential election — which could give the mysterious tease some context, given that the elephant has long been a symbol of the Republican party.

Then again, it’s hard to say what exactly the tease will ultimately say about the upcoming season, as FX used deliberately misleading teasers to promote the sixth season of the show.

“[Murphy and Stephanie Gibbons, FX head of marketing and on-air promotions] went out and made many more trailers than you’ve actually seen for hypothetical seasons of ‘American Horror Story,’ meaning different genres and different places,” FX Networks CEO John Landgraf told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour last summer. “And one of them is accurate, and the others are just misdirects.”
