Well, unlike in the book, when the young protagonist suffers through a comedy of mini-tragedies in a cursed day (and pines for an escape to far-off Australia), the film version finds his whole family running into endless bouts of bad luck and varying degrees of endangerment.
Steve Carell, who has perfected the sweet and slapstick dad role, plays the patriarch here, while Jennifer Garner displays some of her comedy prowess as his wife and a mother of four.
The film hits theaters on October 10.
