AFI Fest Completes Lineup With Oscar Contenders, Films With Maggie Smith and Tim Roth

The festival will take place in Hollywood from Nov. 5-12

"The Lady in the Van"

The 2015 AFI Fest announced its full lineup on Wednesday, with 74 feature films and 53 shorts screening during the eight-day festival in Hollywood November 5-12.

In addition to previously announced gala screenings of Angelina Jolie‘s “By the Sea,” Michael Moore‘s “Where To Invade Next,” Patricia Riggen’s “The 33,” Peter Landesman‘s “Concussion” and Adam McKay‘s “The Big Short,” the festival will feature a number of Oscar entries in the Best Foreign Language Film category, as well as Jacques Audiard‘s Cannes Palme d’Or winner “Dheepan,” Michel Franco’s “Chronic” with Tim Roth and Nicolas Hytner’s “The Lady in the Van,” featuring Maggie Smith.

The World Cinema Selections program will include Oscar contenders from Romania, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Iceland, Denmark and Hungary (the presumed frontrunner, “Son of Saul”). It will also present Matteo Garrone‘s “Tale of Tales” and Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Our Little Sister,” both of which received acclaim at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The section will also include “No Home Movie,” a documentary that the late Chantal Ackerman made about her mother.

The Midnight Selections roster will consist of three films: “Baskin” from Turkey, “Der Nachtmahr” from Germany and the U.S. anthology film “Southbound.”

Breakthrough Selections consist of five innovative films from young filmmakers from Korea, Brazil, South Africa, the Netherlands and the U.S.

And the Cinema’s Legacy program will include the Dolores Del Rio musical “Flying Down to Rio,” Kent Jones’ documentary “Hitchcock/Truffaut,” Harold Lloyd’s classic “Safety Last!,” the Senegalese documentary “Sembene!” and Guy Maddin’s experimental “The Forbidden Room.”

Screenings and events will take place at the TCL Chinese Theatre, the Chinese 6 multiplex, the Dolby Theatre, the Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the Egyptian, the El Capitan Theater and the Hollywood Roosevelt.

Ticket packages are currently on sale, with free tickets available to the public beginning on Monday, Oct. 26.

Here are the newly announced feature films. A complete list of the shorts screening at the festival is available at AFI.com.
