Owning one of the biggest and best voices in the world didn’t help Adele with her credit card company: The singer told concertgoers that her credit card was declined on a recent shopping spree.
“I went to H&M and my card got declined,” she said, according to the Mirror. “Oh, my day’s pretty embarrassing. Nobody knew it was me, but I was mortified.”
Adele has made no bones about her love of shopping on the road, and not always at high-end stores.
“They have everything!” she told the San Jose crowd. “I spent $100 on stuff I do not need. I never need anything I buy at Target, but it’s amazing.”
Not that she needs to bargain shop. Forbes recently estimated her 2015 income in the vicinity of $80.5 million, making her the ninth-highest-paid celeb in the world. Take that, H&M!
While many fans no doubt loved her candor, not everyone did. A Bay Area News Group critic wrote: “Of the two hours she spent onstage Saturday, I’d estimate that 40 minutes were devoted to talking. Although, it felt more like 10 hours. She went on and on about everything from movies to hangovers to Alison Krauss to shopping — lots and lots about shopping.”
Not that Adele cares. According to her fan page, she told the crowd at her next concert, in Oakland: “I got bad reviews in San Jose. I was like, ‘shut up dude, suck my (expletive).’”
