ABC has made some decisions on its new comedies. It has ordered the back nine episodes to make full season orders for “Trophy Wife” and “The Goldbergs.” Meanwhile, it’s throwing four more episodes to “Super Fun Night.”
But, it has canceled “Back in the Game.” The comedy will continue to air all 13 previously ordered episodes.

The decision to cancel “Back in the Game” isn’t a surprise. It has attracted zero critical buzz and hasn’t been holding its lead-in audience, “The Middle,” on Wednesdays. This past week, “Back in the Game” earned a 1.7 in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 6.1 million total viewers.
The full season order for “Trophy Wife” comes as a surprise. Included in TheWrap’s shows that are doomed, it sinks the network’s Tuesday night lineup. The night starts very strong for ABC with “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” averaging a very strong 4.6 in Live + 7, making it the highest-rated new show of the season. “The Goldbergs,” which follows it, averages a 2.7. But, the ratings for “Trophy Wife,” which follows, plunge to a 1.9 average.

Once one of the network’s buzziest shows, “Super Fun Night” hasn’t lived up to the hype. Last month, ABC gave “Super Fun Night” a show of confidence by ordering additional scripts. Take that with a grain of salt, because it also ordered more scripts from “Back in the Game.”
This past Wednesday’s episode of “Super Fun Night” followed a repeat of “Modern Family” and earned a 1.7 rating in the ad demo and 5.2 million total viewers. With an additional four episodes, the Rebel Wilson-starrer can’t rest easy yet but it’s that much closer to a full season order.
