It has been 20 years since Prince Diana was killed, and even two decades on, the world still lovingly remembers “the people’s princess.”
Diana’s sudden death at age 36 on Aug. 31, 1997, left Britain reeling and the world in mourning. She was described as the most famous woman in the world, and her death in a Paris car crash opened up a conversation about the place of paparazzi and the harm constant hounding can cause celebrities.
“Twenty years ago today, the world lost an angel,” Elton John said on Twitter Thursday, along with a goofy photo with his close friend.
“Diana is greatly missed, but she lives on forever through her memorial fund & her wonderful children,” Richard Branson said, including a link to an obituary he wrote for her on Virgin’s website.
“Amazing its [sic] 20 yrs since the passing of Princess Di. I met her once when I was 6, we spoke about Thunderbirds. I still remember it,” Oliver Phelps said.

I was a teen when #Diana died, same age as William. My most vivid memory is this shot, the 'Mummy' card on her coffin pic.twitter.com/itnPDy8yKO
