On Monday’s “9-1-1,” you’ll see Bobby (Peter Krause) do something he’s never done before — at least not as long as we’ve known him. Following last week’s big tsunami cliffhanger, on tonight’s episode, “Sink or Swim,” the Station 118 crew heads over to Santa Monica Pier to rescue victims of the violent wave that’s torn through the iconic tourist attraction.
“Bobby finds himself leading his team through different tsunami-torn parts of Santa Monica,” Krause told TheWrap in a recent interview, which you can view above “And at one point, due to a couple of people who are pinned together inside of a boat that is taking on water, in order to get them free, Bobby has to go underwater and do a little action underwater.”
The majority of the two-parter was shot in Rosarito, Mexico — as showrunner Tim Minear previously told TheWrap — where sections of the Santa Monica Pier, including the famous ferris wheel, were reconstructed in the giant water tanks that were used to film “Titanic.”
“The ferris wheel, Bob Williams, our producer, he wanted to do something with that which visually you’ll see in the episode, which was a big deal,” Krause told us.
Is someone climbing up it, Peter? “There’s that, and there’s more,” he said.
The Fox drama’s star also told us about Ronda Rousey’s addition to the “9-1-1” cast for Season 3 and the serious finger injury she sustained while shooting tonight’s episode, which is the intro for her character, Lena Bosko.
“She’s a firefighter and she’s brave, bold. You know, Ronda, perfect casting for the character of Lena Bosko,” Krause said. “And on our first day of filming with her in Mexico, she had to come charging out of the cabin of this yacht. And as she did, she flipped open the cabin door and simultaneously rest her hand where the frame of the door is and it came smashing down on her finger.”
Rousey kept acting through the take because she hadn’t realized what happened, but was quickly rushed to the hospital. Don’t worry, she’s OK now.
