The long Labor Day holiday is a good time to catch up on beach and back-to-school faves.
“Weekend at Bernie’s” is maybe the ultimate Labor Day movie, a dark comedy about two guys running around the Hamptons with their dead boss’s corpse (long story).
If you came of age in the ’90s, “Saved by the Bell” was unavoidable. Binge old episodes on Hulu.
If you like to watch good-looking people in bathing suits running on the beach, “Baywatch” is your show.
John Belushi starred in “Animal House,” about a wild frat house in the early 1960s.
“School Ties,” about an exclusive prep school in the 1950s, introduced the world to Matt Damon and Brendan Fraser.
The quintessential teen movie, “American Pie” has more than enough leers and puns to fill your weekend, along with a breakthrough part from Alyson “Band Camp” Hannigan.
George Lucas‘ “American Graffiti” has high-school friends (including Harrison Ford) pondering their future on the last weekend of summer 1962.
A soap about a small-town Texas football team, “Friday Night Lights” will set the tone for your fall nights.
“Porky’s” helped usher in the teen sex comedy craze, with its tale of boys going wild at a Florida nightclub.
“Dirty Dancing,” set at a mountain resort in 1963, builds to a big end-of-season dance contest with stars Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze.
Relieve your summer camp days with the cult hit, “Wet Hot American Summer,” starring a before-they-were-famous cast that includes Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper and Ken Marino. Netflix revived the franchise with both a prequel series, “First Day of Camp” and a sequel series “Ten Years Later,” which brought back much of the film’s cast.
Enjoy your long weekend by watching some people that really hate their jobs in Mike Judge’s 1999 classic, “Office Space.” And be glad that you’ll never have to hear about those damn TPS reports.
Yes, we know Richard Linklater’s 1993 coming-of-age comedy “Dazed and Confused” takes place at the beginning of summer, but we bet you’ll still be saying “alright, alright, alright” if you watched it now.
“Everybody Wants Some!!,” Linklater’s “spiritual sequel” to “Dazed and Confused,” moves from high school to the college. This one feels right for this weekend, as it’s set the weekend prior to the first day of classes (which in some states, is actually Labor Day Weekend!)
How could you have a back to school movie list without Adam Sandler’s overgrown man-child “Billy Madison,” who actually… goes back to school? We didn’t think so either.
If you’re feeling the back-to-school blues, the Greendale gang from “Community” should make you happy that at least your school is better than this fictional Colorado community college. Besides, aren’t we all “Human Beings?”
Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake star in “Bad Teacher,” the raunchy 2011 comedy about a high school teacher who probably hates school more than her students.
